UASB treatment of a highly alkaline fruit-cannery lye-peeling wastewater

Abstract

The substrate was fed semi-continuously to the reactor by means of a peristaltic pump (Watson-Marlow 101) controlled by an electronic timer. Reactor start-up The reactor was seeded with 500 g of water-drained anaerobic granules from another anaerobic digester giving a settled sludge-bed height of approximately 300 mm.
