Abstract
South African summer rainfall variability and its association with the marine environment 1. Justification A brief justification for a project researching the links between South African summer rainfall and ocean surface temperature is discussed below. Oceanic and continental climate systems are intricately linked via various feedback mechanisms involving the transfer of heat and moisture at the air sea interface. Although research in other parts of the world has linked rainfall variability with ocean surface temperatures, very little research on this topic has been done in the South African region.
