UPFRONT New standards for geomembranes The recent publication of SANS 10409, Design, Selection and Installation of Geomembranes, is important news to all involved in water supply, waste disposal, and civil engineering projects that involve geomembranes. Together with SANS 1526, Thermoplastics Sheeting for Use as a Geomembrane, there are now two standards that are essential reading for anyone involved in using these versatile liners. “These two standards address quality of manufacture and utilisation of geomembranes, respectively,” explains Kelvin Legge, a geomembrane specialist at the Department of Water Affairs & Forestry.
